About Darlene Zimmerman

I started painting with oils, did some acrylics and silk painting, but the medium I enjoy most is watercolour. I like the softness I can get, also the radiance and purity of colour and the depth I can achieve.

I have been asked many times why my paintings are so peaceful when my life has been the opposite. A brush with cancer in 1993 has made me realize that each new day is a gift to cherish. God has given me many gifts, painting being one of them. My inspiration comes from Him and His beautiful world. I share this peace, this beauty, through my paintings.

Biography:
Born in Vancouver, B.C., Darlene spent most of her childhood drawing trees and flowers. She majored in art at school and continued developing her skills with classes following graduation. Never far from art, she found time to paint and draw while raising a family, but became serious about her commitment when she turned to watercolour in 1992. Attending numerous workshops and classes, Darlene has developed a personal style and a deft hand with this challenging medium.

Her life-long love of nature, her gentle spirit and her delight in painting can be seen in her poetic and lyrical landscapes, wildlife and exquisite florals. Whatever the subject, there is always a sense of peace conveyed in her work.

Darlene has exhibited widely, has had one-woman shows and participated in many juried shows in B.C. If you have a well-loved place or a special “something” that deserves to be painted, Darlene is available for commissions.

Darlene is also an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
